In Addis Ababa, the "Menged Le Sewe" initiative promotes sustainable urban mobility by organizing car-free days, encouraging activities like cycling and walking, and improving public spaces. Although the project was further developed by the local government with received support from the national govenment, too, the initial idea was birthed by local communnity.
Following Addis Ababa's example, other African cities have implemented similar initiatives, including Cape Town (South Africa), Kigali (Rwanda), Kampala (Uganda), and Nairobi (Kenya), demonstrating a broader regional commitment to sustainable mobility and urban wellness.
