Tracking the origin of marine plastic waste to inform policy
The type of microplastics known as nurdles, pellets, or siren's tears appear in the Caribbean paradise of Mahahual, in Quintana Roo. These are small fragments of plastic resin that are melted down to create larger products like bottles and pose a severe danger to marine wildlife and humans. A group of activists led by a woman trying to identify where the plastics came from and fight to raise awareness within her community, key actors and government.
