In the El Vallado neighborhood, in eastern Cali, the community organized to peacefully prevent the construction of a landfill in an area of urban wetlands, vital ecosystems for biodiversity and environmental quality. A group of senior citizens created a community meeting place with a garden and activities for integration, transforming the protest into a space for social cohesion. This action led the Mayor's Office to suspend the project and, instead, announce the construction of a circular economy center with education and employment programs for young people, strengthening the dignity and agency of the neighborhood.
