PACOS is an organisation based in Sabah, Malaysia dedicated towards empowering indigenous communities through systematic building and strengthening of community organizations. The project, “Strengthening Indigenous Communities in Malaysia by Initiating Community-Based Enterprise, Promoting Traditional Knowledge and Addressing Land Degradation” has benefitted 19 Indigenous People communities to ensure they have their rights on using resources and strengthen indigenous knowledge, culture and belief systems. The initiatives by PACOS to accomplish their objectives include: Skills training program for community-based enterprise. Training on nature farming and food processing, and basic entrepreneurship skills. 6 out of 10 groups who participated in the training are now suppliers for the community market. Sales and marketing program. Use of natural resources to provide income to the communities. Products sold include local delicacies, vegetables and fruits from 26 suppliers. The program has reached 175 online customers in which 25% of customers have repeated the orders. Documenting and promoting traditional knowledge. Knowledge in handicrafts, traditional herbs, clothing wear, food recipes, traditional musical instruments, and traditional fishing instruments.
