Learnings on your challenge
What are the top key insights you generated about your learning challenge during this Action Learning Plan? (Please list a maximum of 5 key insights)
Parafoil drones are a new technology that can be used to track large areas like 10 square kilometers as we did. Regular drones cannot fly for that long time.
After the earthquake municipalities faced with illegal debris dumping. It is not very easy to track which dump site can be used more regarding their capacity This parafoil drone surveillance and the analysis after that let AccLab prepare the analysis for the municipality as well as giving them an information about the content of the debris.
For the continuation of this study, municipalities can directly work with this company that are capable of using parafoil drone and also analyzing the data.
Considering the outcomes of this learning challenge, which of the following best describe the handover process? (Please select all that apply)
Our work has been picked up by UNDP or the government and has now expanded geographically in our country
Can you provide more detail on your handover process?
Two surveillance flights have been conducted together with the municipality staff in Kahramanmaras dump site. Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality (KMM) handled all the permissions for drone flight from the government. The site was selected by KMM so that they can see the before and after volume of the debris on the dump site as well as the content information of the debris. All reports have been shared with KMM and a final meeting will be conducted in early January for the company to present the findings.

Data and Methods
Relating to your types of data, why did you chose these? What gaps in available data were these addressing?
The municipality did not have the data for the capacity and the current volume of the debris that were duped in the selected site. For them to manage the dump site and for directing the coming debris to another sites they have to know the data. The municipality also did not have the data for the ontent of the debris.
Why was it necessary to apply the above innovation method on your frontier challenge? How did these help you to unpack the system?
With the parafoil drone technology, AccLab provided the municipality full visuals and analysis of the current debris dump site, which they cannot find out without using this technology.
Partners
Please indicate what partners you have actually worked with for this learning challenge.
Please state the name of the partner:
Innovita
What sector does your partner belong to?
Private Sector
Please provide a brief description of the partnership.
Service provision was made form the partner for the surveillances and also the analysis of the collected data. The company will also present all their findings and will explain the technology and the places where we can use this technology to UNDP CO and also to Kahramanmaras Metropolitan Municipality in early January 2024.
Is this a new and unusual partner for UNDP?
Yes
End
Bonus question: How did the interplay of innovation methods, new forms of data and unusual partners enable you to learn & generate insights, that otherwise you would have not been able to achieve?
Please upload any further supporting evidence / documents / data you have produced on your frontier challenge that showcase your learnings.
